FREDDIE MERCURY - IN MEMORIAM 1991-2006

Dear visitors,

15 years ago our Freddie Mercury, one of the greatest artists of our time, died of AIDS. I believe I speak for us all when I say that we still miss him and that his wonderful voice and songs continue to live in our hearts. Thank you Freddie for this beautiful gift!

In My Defence by Freddie Mercury

In my defence what is there to say
All the mistakes we made must be faced today
It's not easy now knowing where to start
While the world we love tears itself apart

I'm just a singer with a song
How can I try to right the wrong
For just a singer with a melody
I'm caught in between, with a fading dream

In my defence what is there to say
We destroy the love, it's our way
We never listen enough, never face the truth
Then like a passing song, love is here and then it's gone

I'm just a singer with a song
How can I try to right the wrong
For just a singer with a melody
I'm caught in between, with a fading dream
I'm just a singer with a song
How can I try to right the wrong

I'm just a singer with a melody
I'm caught in between, with a fading dream
Caught in between, with a fading dream
Caught in between, with a fading dream

Oh what on earth, oh what on earth
How do I try, do we live or die
Oh help me God, please help me

" ONLY ART IS CAPABLE OF CLEARING THE WORLD OF VIOLENCE "

Leo N. Tolstoy

"I suppose journalists will again write that we are a bunch of arrogant bastards. Album "The Miracle" is not about what we are, but what we're looking for - peace on Earth - and this will surely be condemned for a stupid idealism. But there's nothing you can do."

Brian May

"I'm glad when I have a mask I can hide behind"

Freddie Mercury

THE GREAT PRETENDER

The maenads, with their extatic hearts and cruel hands
Are watching for every Orpheus -
He therefore looks for a shelter,
Acts with a big style,
Lives through the song
And defies the death.

"Yes, I'm the great pretender
Inside my heart is breaking,
My make-up's maybe flaking
But my smile still stays on!"
This is how Freddie Mercury used to sing
Changing the roles and throwing away the masks;
He wanted it all, he wanted it now,
He was wearing his heart like a crown
And acted the life to the bottom.

He wasn't able to do it in some other way,
This was the only way for him to leave just a little, only a shell,
To maenads, when their love was rejected.
"I'll face it with a grin,
I'm never giving in!",
This is how he used to sing to them.
He was allowed to -
His love was on the other side of death
And only through death could he reach her.
And in his defence what was there to say
Except the truth of Orpheus:
"I'm just a singer with a song,
How can I try to right the wrong?"

The singer is gone.
The song remained
To fight the wrong
By itself.
